You’re messin’ with my vision!!

I have a vision!!  A vision of a beautiful holiday table full of yummy deliciousness.  Casseroles, bread, salads, veggies, gravy, potatoes, and turkey.  Sliced CARVED turkey on a platter.  Carved BEFORE it hits the table.  In fact, I want two turkeys sliced up!  Smaller turkeys are more yummy from what I understand.  Two turkeys also means 4 legs and 4 wings for the dark meat lovers – I prefer to disengage any arguments before they happen 🙂

Husband thinks a Godzilla sized turkey plopped down smack in the middle of everything and everyone is the way to go.  I’m having another vision of Chevy Chase standing over a massive turkey and slicing it up.Chevy

Typically this would not be an issue.  Did I mention that we have a huge family? Seriously folks, our Thanksgiving will include 20-22 peeps.  The famous Norman Rockwell Thanksgiving print has only 10 people!!

I know he wants this moment, but the show must go on.  Surely he knows me enough by now to not disrupt my visions.  Surely he knows better, right?  RIGHT?!

We can have the typical staged photo ops, but the slicin and dicin will happen before that bird hits the table, people!!

With such a huge crowd anything but turkey on a platter already sliced would be buzzkill.

I’m thinking of the Starbucks line.  I call it the “Time Warp”.  It never moves.  It ceases.  To the point you think Why the hell did I decide to do this.

What did I want again?

Do I really need this ridiculously overpriced non-fat peppermint mocha?

And you stay in that line. Mostly because you can’t leave the line because they way they build Starbucks around here once you’re in you are IN.

And I’m in! I’m so in to slicin’ before the servin’!

We will see who sins this battle.  But just so you know… I do NOT own a roasting dish large enough to handle a massive turkey.  Nor so I plan to buy, borrow or steal one from anyone or anywhere.

The moment you Google your blog just to see what happens….

There it is!!!  Google found… me!  Rather, found the image I posted.Ash Logo1

It was really exciting!!

I’m visible!!  Sorta, in my own little world.  This is big!!

Totally new at blogging, kinda.   I guess I’ve done this before, like a decade ago.  Long story there, moving right along…..  I consider this to be my “grown up” blog.   I’d say “adult” blog but that sort of sounds rated R.  Nothing here is rated R, for goodness sakes.  My mom reads this blog, sheesh!

Anyways, I probably need to copyright my images or something, I guess.

Does it matter… Who can tell me?

Hey kitty!

Sometimes the small things bring such joys.

Enter stage left.. The Kitty. DSC_4460

This adorable creature entered our lives not too long ago by way of the back yard.  One afternoon she just appeared!  Poof!

I happen to be a magnet for cats.  Seriously.  They must know this and say “Hey, she’s an animal lover! Let’s go there and she will feed us!”  And they show up and I’m like this: elf hug

Since we moved in….. 6 months ago…..the domesticated animal sightings have been minimal.  The neighborhood cat sighting can be counted on one hand and I’m beginning to think dogs don’t exist in here.  Well, until our new neighbors moved in.  More later on that.

Back to preciousness…. The Kitty!

She is so dang cute!  And so teeny tiny.  And she brings such joy to the kids.  We have no idea where she came from.  We advertised a “Found” on our local Facebook Lost & Found page with no response.  We looked around the ‘hood for “Lost” posters, nothing.  I can’t help but to think some poor little child has lost her kitten.   But she won’t leave our yard and comes in to sleep with us each night.

We are slowly recognizing that we now have a cat.  I will continue to keep an eye out for a “lost” poster but I have purchased cat food and a litter box.  I think I’m doomed.

But who could resist her?! DSC_4462

Until she poops outside the litter box, IN-side the house….. which we all know is inevitable.

Kitchen update!!

Yay!!   I have painted the kitchen!

Well, almost painted 100%.  I still have the trim to work on.

Stupid trim.  Who invented trim anyways?

My husband and I recently stayed in this beautiful cozy flat on HWY 30A and I noticed the trim was painted the same color as the wall.  Hmm, wonder why they did that?  It looked really good and I shrugged it off as a way to make the room seem bigger.

Now I realize the irritation of painting trim was probably a big player in that decision.

I’ll cut in an edge all day long but I really dislike painting trim. Hate.  There I said it .  HATE IT.

Alas, as promised, the pictures:

Yes, the walls are bare.  Yes, there’s a cat.  She’s a bit of a photo bomber lately.  Yes, there is a person hiding behind the fridge.  I told him not to walk in front of me while I was taking pics or I’d post it. 🙂   Yes, there are stains on the rug.  No, I do not like the grout on these massive tiles.  To remove the grout would be a project more painful than painting trim so that’s not happenin’ .  Yes, the inside of the funky plate/cook book nook thingy is the color the cabinets used to be.  To remove the plate rack would require taking apart the cabinet.  To attempt to take apart the cabinet, ridiculous.  To paint in between all those things, absurd.  Let’s focus on the positive here!

I’m in love with the color.  Revere Pewter by SW.  The cabinets are Graphite by Annie Sloan Chalk Paint.  This project has taken me quite some time.  We replaced the light as well.

I’m considering a round seagrass rug and changing out the chairs to something upholstered.  Hush, yes, I have kids and it’s crazy to have upholstered stuff but I have a vision……

Hey ya’ll! Let’s eat!

The holidays to me are a time for families to come together, to catch up on time lost and, lets face it… To E.A.T.   Haha!  But isn’t it so true?!  Dinners, brunch, cookies exchanges, etc.  Basically we say “Y’all come over and let’s eat something!”  Channeling Paula Deen here….

Aside from the usual Thanksgiving and Christmas traditions, I’m thinking about a yummy breakfast casserole, overnight french toast, and monkey bread.  Don’t these look so delicious!!!  Thankful for Pinterest and these peeps for sharing these recipes.  I have to say the overnight French toast casserole is so super easy.  But so are the others.  Go ahead, give’em a try!  You won’t be disappointed!french ToastbreakCass

pinterestCan I say I’m obsessed with Pinterest?  Is that ok?  Whoever invented this awesome-ness needs some serious recognition.  Actually, I looked it up…. (Problem solving Virgo over here) It was created by a group of GUYS!  Who knew! Here’s the link if you want to know more about Pinterest.

How did we survive without this??  Oh yeah, I’m having flashbacks to the numerous cookbooks, magazines, scraps of paper, printed recipes, recipe cut outs… it just goes on.  Boy that was a dust collecting mess I had.  I would look for a recipe only to end up making something else because I couldn’t find what I had originally looked for.  Or just wing it.   I needed some organization help, seriously!  Now I will say that I came across my grandmothers cookbook and immediately wanted to preserve it.  I have a special place in my heart for things like that.  But MY cookbook…. ain’t nobody gonna have time for that!  In fact, I think I threw it out of embarrassment :/

If you’d like to see my Pinterest you can go here.   I may have a “pinning problem” , heehee.  Some of my most favorite boards are Food and probably any of the Decor type boards I created.  I just started a Holiday board and am in the process of moving some pins around.

I hope you find something “Pin-worthy” or something that sparks a vision or inspiration.  After all, that’s what its’ all about, right?

Mantles that make you go Oooh!

It’s the simple things right?! I am so excited that I have a mantle!  This means other things to me too.  Like now we have a fireplace!  We LOVE making a big fire on a cold night.  The kids usually see who can sit on the hearth the longest with out spontaneously combusting.  A game I remember from my childhood.  I just love a fireplace.  It screams “cozy” to me.  Secondly but almost as important, I enjoy changing out the decor through-out the year.  My favorite is decorating it for fall and Christmas.  Halloween too!   It’s always fun to change around the decor in your home from time to time.  This does NOT mean you have to go out and spend a fortune on new things.  Ask my husband, I am forever pulling items from other spots in our home and using them in new ways.  He has a joke with the kids to see who can spot the changes first 🙂

Here are some mantles with different decor ideas from good ol’ Pinterest.  I felt like I had found gold when I came across this “formula” pin!  Haleluja!!  I do not think you have to have symmetry in decor but if that floats your boat then so be it… Otherwise this works!  mantle math

A mirror on the mantle adds so much depth and interest to an otherwise flat space.  Greenery is my second fav. I’m not crazy about the white mantle in this pic but you get the idea. mantle greenery

The way the different elements work in this arrangement are just about perfect.  Not too much and it looks balanced.

I think putting something personal in the mix is like icing on the cake.  This is a wonderful idea to do just that.  Simple, unique and personal.

All these ideas could work for decorating a bookcase, too… Just sayin’!  Have a great time making a shelf or your mantle pretty!!
