Happy New Year!!!

After a 10 day vacation from my desk job I am happy to be back into the swing of things… ie: a schedule!   I don’t flourish well when I’m left to flounder about for more than a few days.  But man, it was nice!!

We had a wonderful holiday vacation and indulged ourselves in family, fun and festivities.

Tyler Family Christmas Eve Lunch 2017

It’s January 3rd and we have already celebrated our oldest child turning 18.   I just can’t believe it.   If you follow my Instagram you will see a picture of him in his JROTC uniform.  He looks so grown up…. so mature, so ready for his adult life to begin. I am SO PROUD OF HIM!!!

This year two of our kids will graduate from high school and two are turning 16.  Life just keeps going…. no matter what!

And now it’s back to our previously scheduled programing…. life, the 9-5, the rat race.
How about this year let’s try to do more than just do more?
Let’s try to do more meaningful, quality vs quantity, whole hearted 100% genuine selflessness.
Create joy in your life by creating joy in someone else’s.

Keep it simple, sister

imageIt is so easy to get overwhelmed.

Daily distractions can derail your goals in a heartbeat.

Two days later you realize instead of taking steps toward your goal you’ve taken steps backwards.

Writing things down has been my “go-to” goal planning system.

Do I always follow it?  Heck no, I’m a human.  I make mistakes.  I get distracted by the pretty things that flutter into my head.  Just take a look at the 5 -10 window tabs I have open at any given time.  haha, Seriously.  It is ADD at its’ worst.

Anyone that knows me knows I love a good list.  I make lists for the grocery store, vacations, yard work, daily to-do, kids homework, housework, bills… it’s’ kinda weird. But it helps me get things done!

True story: I was pregnant with my second son and working full time.  I had a list of things that needed to be completed by a certain deadline, knowing his due date was fastly approaching.  The day I crossed off the final time-sensitive project, guess what happened….. I went into labor the night!!  Within 5 hours he was swaddled and the grandparents were cooing over him.  I truly believe crossing that final task off my list gave me the satisfaction I had completed my responsibilities to my position and I could move on the my next priority – my son.

In an effort to share useful information along with my randomness here ya go:  I love the following posts from Pinterest, I hope you do too!

Give love and receive love

It’s really that simple.

We recently spent some time on the beach.

Sidebar:  We live a “stone’s throw” from some of the most beautiful beaches in the US – in my opinion – and we just don’t get out there very much, I’m sad to say.

Anyways, we went took the boat and some of the kids to the beach recently just for the afternoon.  It was a gorgeous day!  We really had a great time.  I noticed my 14 yr old had been sitting in the softer sand for a while.  Letting him do his thing, I just keep an eye on him.  Eventually he got up and moved on to chasing a bird or something like that… boys will be boys.

I walked over to see what had held his concentration for such a long time and found this.images (40)

What I found absolutely melted me.

My 14 yr old, sometimes self absorbed, typical teenage son had been methodically carving a perfect heart in the sand.

What did this say to me?  His heart is full of love.

Our hearts should be filled with love.  We should give love without reservation.  In return we will receive love.

See? It’s as simple as that.

Just 30 minutes… Just 20 minutes… Just 10… 5… 4… 3… 2..

As I try to better myself and take part in a 10 day yoga challenge, I found something very humerous.  I started practicing yoga again to become more flexible.

Desk jobs are really hard on the back and neck, shoulders, stomach…. etc!  I get out of the office a bit but not as much as I used to and it’s taken a toll on my 40+ yr old body.

In a house with 5 kids and a cat, no-one and I mean NO-ONE wants anything to do with me until I start my 20-30 minute yoga session.

I sneak in, close my door quietly, unroll my mat, press play on my computer (LOVE Yoga Today.. btw)  and somewhere during the second sun salutation it happens.

Kid #1 needs money for fundraiser, kids #4 and #3 began chasing each other up and down the hallway, Kitty wants in the room, door bell rings… door bell rings again.. kid #5 and friend ask where the laptop is (its in my room..duh!)

Kitty wants out, Kids #5 and #4 now are in some strange duet contest trying to outsing each other in crazy high annoying voices. Kitty wants back in (can’t blame her)

There is basically a circus on the other side of my bedroom door.  A. Three. Ring.  Circus.

Just breathe into triangle pose……

I know I didn’t mention kid #2… frankly I am not concerned with his whereabouts at this point.  He is quiet and that is good.

Kitty is now curled up under my plank, a sad droopy plank that shifts to knee assisted plank more than I’d like to admit.  Down facing dog is an open invitation to sniff my nose, eyes, mouth and possibly headbutt me in the face.

Kitty gets kicked out as soon as we return to  “both feet at the front of the mat” position.

Moving on to crow pose…. if you are unfamiliar with crow pose just think of butt waaaay up in the air, knees in arm pits, and balancing treacherously on your hands with your face inches from the floor.  This is when my husband walks in…. “HEY THERE!!”  in the “man sees woman in yoga pose and his mind goes directly into the gutter” tone.  Just breathe…

I used to be good at crow… now it’s a sad attempt to not smash my face in the two seconds I can get my feet off the floor.  I know… a little at a time.. 🙂

My husband comes back in during the tiny little 2 minute savasana and asks if I had a peaceful yoga session with a smirk.

I say sure did!  I’m working on my flexibility 🙂

Tomorrow is a new day.  Namaste
